Simon Fox's 1965 Beetle

Currently undergoing it's third rebuild! Simon's Ruby Red 65 is a UK Resto-Cal veteran. Words and pics, copyright Simon Fox.

Update: 13th August 2004

What I did today. Just sorting out the inner wing and front quarter bottom. Went over to Kingfisher's this morning and got a few panels. I basically chopped it to bits, mainly to get it to fit better but also to get more of a 'factory' finish ( the inner wing never went all the way to the bottom of the heater channel, even though this is how the repair panels come! )

Update: 12th August 2004

Channel in one side and door post bottom in. Re-fitted door back on to check alignment. Looks like it might be a trip to Kingfishers on Sat for inner wing repair panels.

Update: 11th August 2004

Beam time today as I'm waiting on a spot welder from a mate to put the bottoms on my heater channels. :) 4" narrowed with shock mounts on body. I used balljoint shocks so I could mount a bracket that could easily be removable in future if you wanted to go back to standard. It's just a mock up at the mo. Still got to weld in a support between the beams. Not very impressed with the urathane replacement bushes. They were a b*stard to get in. We'll see how they go. ;)

Update: 7th August 2004

Bumper hangers in today. :) Original one this side and hookys panel on 'tother. Need a NOS or very good original rear valance. Let me know if you know where there is one.

Also bare metaled the front inner wings so I can see what I'm dealing with. Not easy taking off about 5 coats of paint even with nitromorse! Gonna get the rear ones stripped off tomorrow.

Update: 3rd August 2004

Right, bumper hangers and wheelwell in ( all a free-bee from a mate! ). Original front valance put back on after a couple of repairs in the corners:

Went around the back and smoothed off the engine bay and welded up where I'd done a few 'mods' in the past :)

Update: 22nd July 2004

As is was years back when I first starting showing it. Back in 93' or 94' can't remember now. Picking up best resto at the spring champs.

As it was after a bit of a make over. 2002 waiting to get into Bug Jam.

As it is now. Awaiting it's third re-build!

The floorpan I've just got hold of. New pan halves in it. Saves me the grief!
